ARTIST STATEMENT
In an upward movement, the woman liberates the fire that is consuming her. Like a burst of passion, her old self surrenders to the transmuting power of fire. The phoenix is rising in full.
The name of this painting is an homage to Marissa, who was a lover of music, nature, and spiritual work. “Colibri” means hummingbird both in French and Spanish. One of her favorite songs to sing was an icaro called “Colibri.” The words are: “In the middle of this fire shines a hummingbird.”
When I heard those words, my painting came to mind. I had painted the woman of fire, but the bottom part was just white, waiting for the next element to manifest. I did not know then how much it represented her. A few months after I completed the painting, she was diagnosed with cancer. My young friend turned into the colibri of her song: her strength, trust, and love for life and mother nature turned her into a powerful warrior of love. She shined brilliantly through the consuming fire of her fear. She gave it all, inspiring us with her resilience, and now guides us from the light. Love you, sister!
DETAILS
Colibri (humming bird)
The hummingbird represents joy, resilience, energy, love, spiritual awakening, healing, guidance from the divine, and respect for nature. It is a powerful symbol that inspires us to embrace life’s sweetness and navigate through challenges with grace and determination.
Due to their ability to hover in the air and fly backward, hummingbirds symbolize resilience, adaptability, and the ability to overcome obstacles. They are often seen as guardians of the Earth, reminding us of the importance of respecting and protecting the natural world.
In Native American culture, the hummingbird is considered a symbol of spiritual awakening and the journey towards enlightenment. Its ability to hover and move in all directions is seen as a metaphor for the soul’s quest for enlightenment.
Some believe that seeing a hummingbird is a sign of divine guidance and protection. It is considered a reminder to stay present and enjoy the sweetness of life. This fits so well with the message Marissa conveyed when she was with us.
Wave
The fire engulfing the woman is balanced by the water element, from which the hummingbird emerges. Like soothing waves, the blue color tempers the passionate blaze.
Sparks
Dive into the joyous dance of sparks of fire around her head, where a light language is being written. This phenomenon often appears in my paintings, and while I can’t fully translate it, I always honor its presence when it emerges.
During my healing sessions, I witness these golden lines being woven into the person’s energy field, emanating from my fingertips. With uncontrolled movements, a golden 3D lace is woven in the energy field. These are new pieces of information encoding themselves into the person, and from my end, it’s a sign of a deep change happening.
